There we were, gathered together at the cemetery and it wasn't even a Dead Boring Hash. Four of our number were in New York City, getting a good night's sleep before the marathon. And there were we, the home team, under a darkening sky on the outskirts of Ramat HaSharon, happily ready to run like idiots through groves of citrus trees laden with ripening fruit. And so we did.

This being a Dr. D. production, there was lots of ground to cover and trail was well-marked, except for what had gotten washed away by rain the night before. Mary Kay Leturn-Ho showed unusual dedication to finding the trail, running through a tunnel awash in mud. Indeed the entire run had plenty of shiggy to offer -- apparently while setting the trail, Dr. D. had to be restrained in his enthusiasm by Stroker who told him that he could not have us crossing a flash-flooded wadi just because it was there.

The half-way song was "Father Abraham" -- again, this being a Dr. D. production -- but during the Down-downs, we were treated to a new song (new to us, that is) courtesy of the Ashdod-Portland H3 contingent. Diabolo lost the trail once, and Boston Creamed got just plain lost. There were points, however, where the trail was marked to perfection and it all worked like a choreographed dance: "On one" called out on one side and then the other, "On two" over here and then over there. Exquisite. This is why we leave the job to the experts.

From Herzliya/Tel-Aviv: Take Ayalon or Haifa Road to Rokach Avenue heading away from Tel Aviv (towards Ramat HaSharon). Make a RIGHT turn towards Hadar Yosef Stadium / Bechor-Sheetrit St. The Athletics Stadium parking lot is on your RIGHT.

From the Ramat-Gan Ayalon Mall: From Abba Hillel Silver St. / Sheshet HaYamim St. turn LEFT onto Mivtza Kadesh Rd. (towards Ramat-HaSharon). After passing the Dan Design Center, make a LEFT at the first traffic light towards Hadar Yosef Stadium. This is Bechor-Sheetrit St. (don't turn RIGHT onto Raul Wallenberg). The Athletics Stadium parking lot is on your LEFT.

The 5th Annual Eyal Run takes place next Saturday, November 18, in Ramat HaSharon. The T-shirt looks pretty cool...
