Hello fellow Hashers!

Hare's eye view of the Nine Hundred and Twenty eighth Hash (it's a short one this time...):

The hash wasn't quite as soggy as the week before but the skies were threatening.
We ran up hills.
We ran down hills.
We did not run on flat ground.
We ran through the streets of Mevaseret Zion, off road and up and down stairs. Lots of stairs. We then found the circle and demolished Caveman's snacks before all freezing to death and going home.

Hello fellow Hashers!

Hare's eye view of the Nine Hundred and Twenty Seventh Hash:

WET! SLOPPY! COLD! That's when great runners rise to the occasion! (Except Kadaffi, he ran with an umbrella, doin' his Mary Poppins imitation...) Everyone else gets honorable mention for showing up, except for Goldmember who got lost and then went home. Shame.

The walkers got lost tryin' to get to the halfway point, where we haled Papa Abe and his seven sons. Eventually it all came together smoothly in the muddy parking lot where we drank beer, sang, and held our umbrellas tight.

Kadaffi made up for the umbrella gig, with a whiskey shot at Mike's Place afterwards, where we had a ginormous birthday for our Austin virgin\guest Phoebe, so eventually it turned out to be a fun winter day in Herzliya.

Who invented the paperclip

When Johann Vaaler patented his paper clip in 1901, there already were similar designs on the books. William Middlebrook of Waterbury, Connecticut patented his design in 1899. Cornelius Brosnan of Springfield, Massachusetts patented his Konaclip in 1900.

So, who was first to invent the paper clip?

Well, it is thought to be Johann Vaaler. Drawings of his design date to early 1899, but since Norway had no patent law at the time he had to seek patent rights in Germany and the US in the following years.

Johann Vaaler was born on 15 March 1866 in Aurskog, Norway. Known as an innovator in his youth, he graduated in electronics, science and mathematics. He was employed by the owner of an invention office when he invented the paper clip in 1899.

Several designs followed the original. Only a few remain, such as the Ideal, Non-Skid, Owl and Gem. The first double-oval clip, the Gem, was launched in early-1900 by Gem Manufacturing Ltd of England. The paper clip remains as one of the most-used items of all time.

Hello fellow Hashers!

Hare's eye view of the Nine Hundred and Twenty Sixth Hash:

It was a beautiful day in Tel Aviv for a hash!
Our hares, Penis Envy and Caveman, took us through the narrow, quiet streets of Tel Aviv and then along the promenade for the finale.
We had several new folks (For all those who speek Hash-Speak - "Virgins") join us this week... and the Jerusalem contingent ventured to Tel Aviv this week as well! No doubt we had quite the pack this week.
Much bitching and moaning was heard from the pack as it was claimed the trail was not marked well. Clearly those complainers were not at hash 925 where for the most part there were no markings, thus when compared to this week, the trail was indeed well marked (*Hash-Scribe Note - Hares to be, mark the trail well!). The halfway point was dedicated to Joe Button and as usual, half the group sang "watermelon, watermelon, watermelon.".
Following the hash, we enjoyed chili and more beer at the On-After at Penis Envy's place. Sorry to those of you who missed it as the chili was good and the beer cold!

Being the Hare, I thought that the run was cleverly set. The trail was innovative with no false trails, and no checks. However, every street corner was a possible check as the pack had to check it out at every intersection.

Being the hare I felt quite smug knowing how much this would be appreciated.

However, the pack somehow didn't agree with me. In fact you can't even begin to politely describe how unimpressed they were with my trail.

Anticipating this, I made the second half even better by using no trail whatsoever just running down to and along the beach and back to the cars.

There we got our swimmies and 5 hearty fools dove in for the ~~anal~~ annual New Year's Swim. For the finale the pizza was great.

Why was it that the pizza eaters (except for g-m) were also the swimmers, were also the runners?

Hash Trash Run 924, Directions to Run 925

Hello fellow Hashers!

We met for run 924 in the quiet yet noisy neighborhood Ezorei Hen in northern TA. A short time thereafter we began running, the run was a sweet and fun one, not too long and along some fine scenery, combined with the beer that awaited at the end, things seemed magnificent...
Well, things don't always go as planned, do they?
Some hashers complained about running in the sand (sand in the sox anyone?!) while others were busy wearing amazingly horrifying pants or hats.
Some got bugs stuck in they're eyes (no, really, bug in the eye!) and some helped the same bugs out preforming a field surgery (thank god beer is at the end...), and it wasn't EZ-Doc!!!.
Well, such wonderful hash could have only ended one way, having a beer! (or two, or three...)

Hash Trash Run 923, Directions to Run 924

Hello fellow Hashers!

We met for run number cmxxiii (923 for all you non-Romans) in an empty parking lot that soon was full not of Hashers but of football (soccer for all you Americans) fans going to a game. The run took us through nice neighborhoods and less nice neighborhoods, running past a lot of hoods.

At the half way we sang a splendid rendition of Father Abraham and those that didn't know the words, now do. Afterwards we ran back to the car park to the screams of Goooooaaaaal a couple of times, to find Long Horny and Christie waiting for us to open the car and get a beer. FRB was probably Fluffer, DFL was definitely Double Entry. There was a reliever, some without Hash shirts, Ika was a virgin and we had a few returnees, especially Long Horny. We wished Stiff Meat a piss off not before making him run circles around the car park to another screaming rendition of Goooooaaaaal, thus he outsmarted us all and made his 50th run, qualifying for a patch and a MUG (if Twin Peaks ever comes back to the Hash).

Norma Jean's was better then ever as we devoured our food, drank more beer, forgot to pay for Stiff Meats portion (he paid his own) and stumbled out to face another weekly grind at the manure factory.

It was unanimously voted down that seeing as the HashScribe has better things to do, that the Hare should report about the run.

Go another 400 Mt.
Park at the shopping center.
Look for Semen.

Don't forget, it's a holiday (well, actually it's two holidays), so bring treats, sweets,and good things to eat!

Hello fellow Hashers!

Since the Hash was pretty much non-existent, let us talk about the morning prior to the event, shall we?

At around 06:46 we awoke in our tents, not only by the sun and light outside but also from various bodily sounds cumming at all angles from our camping neighbors. I was still in a haze of sleep when I saw other Hashers sitting in their loungers already holding a can of beer (true story, people). Way to start off the day!

Morning slugged through, and it was bagel-time. Oh, did I say bagel-time - I meant "Hey Double Entry, can you try to keep the grill steady so we could have some ashes-free breakfast"-time. Was deeeeeee-lish. And if that wasn't enough, we even had some cream, juice, filter coffee, more beer, white wine, kebabs, and a screaming/panting Deliverance that would not stop threatening people with severe injury until she got a cup of coffee in hand.

In the few hours later, this Scribe wasn't in attendance. But if I assume that the same events just kept on going for the entire day, you can understand why the Hash was only about 5 minutes long - by that time, nobody really gave a f*@k.

(either that, or they didn't care enough to send some down-sowns to the Scribe)

Hash Trash Run 920, Directions to Run 921

Hello fellow Hashers!
This week's run took place in Raanana as promised. Well, not all promises were kept. For example, the HARE DIDN'T SHOW UP! some lame excuse about work was brought up, but we don't care.
Thank god first time hasher, Just Daniel, took command of things and got us on the right track. Well, almost. The run that was supposed to be a 5k run turned into an 8k event that made some very brave hashers, both new and old to call it quits...
After running through the really drowsy and sleepy raanana, while Captain Caveman was trying to wake everybody up, we arrived at the park where we ran in circles, over a bridge and along green pastures, watched pelicans swim in the lake and finally got at the half way point where we Swung Low.
The run then continued, in somewhat of a Kriss-Krossy manner, through the park and through some more quiet streets, until we arrived at the circle where CC (him again!) was already waiting for us with the beer and his funny hat.
Oh, the joy of hashing...

VERY IMPORTANT DIRECTIONS FOR THE DESERT NIGHT RUN:

Ok, Here is the deal! Things have changed and all participants of the desert race need to know the following:

1. Bring your own meat and something else to share for dinner. The list of who is bringing what is listed below.

2. All runners should sign up for the race ahead of time. Contact Pro-Sport Store in Tel Aviv for the correct email address site in order to register. The phone number is 03-624-7659. Tell them you're with the Hashers.

3. Breakfast will be provided for you, however, you will be charged for your share at the camp site.

4. Wine and beer will be provided - however you will be charged at the camp site.

5. Plates, condiments (ketchup, salt, pepper, olives, pickles, pita and hummous), paper plates, forks, knives and spoons, coffee, milk and cheap plastic cups will be provided (you will be charged accordingly).

6. There must not be any misunderstanding, we split all the costs evenly on everything, no matter what you drink or use, no whining or bitching will be allowed.

7. Please understand that there are no bathroom or toilet facilities at our site. There are public outdoor cold showers near the Dead Sea (which is nowhere near the campsite).

8. The Hash will take place somewhere in the dessert. Time to be decided the Saturday morning. 25 shekels.

9. If you are coming and are not on the list, be creative and bring something in the spirit of the event. Every one should bring extra wood if they can. Also small grills.

10. We will be between 15 –20 Hashers.

Sponge - clean up again, Coolers - in the event there are no tables (as usual) we will line up the coolers to use as table and chairs

Hello fellow Hashers!
The Hash circled at Tel-Aviv, at the bottom of the high-rising (might I say phallic [Penis Envy, anyone?!]) Isrotel hotel.
The sun was out and we had no worries what so ever. Ho, how wrong were we...
We were off to a nice start. The niceness continued for about 4 minutes when we found out our hare lost her way while setting the hash... Soon after that we were forced into walking up hill by the hare's orders and during the walk the pack tried to pull a trick on one of the hashers which didn't quite succeed.
Yet, the hash was not all that bad, yours truly might even refer to it as good, IT HAD A BEER CHECK!!! At an actual pub!!!
But then, when all the ups and downs were bound to end (we were, after all, less than 300 mt. from the circle), all hell broke loose.
The rain that washed us over (and under, and from all sides) was overwhelming in TA terms...
We got wet to the bones, and had to run these last 300 meters in the pouring rain. Oh, the things one must do to get his beer...
At the end, we circled up at Penis Envy's apartment, where we were served cold beer, whisky cheddar cheese (thanks to the returning [for the last time!] Stiff Meat) and some fresh towels.

We will begin our Hashing adventure on 29 Ben Yehuda St. in downtown Tel Aviv (near the Isrotel) - Google Map (+directions from Ayalon) Here.

Directions:

From the US Embassy take Shalom Aleichem to a left on Ben Yehuda. The start will be next to the Subway on Ben Yehuda.

If you don't find a parking place marked in blue and white (and look carefully at the sign in the beginning of the street, some streets are banned for parking even on Saturdays), you will have to pay for parking, and Penis Envy recommends three lots, all with access on Hayarkon:

63 Hayarkon is south of the US Embassy;
A lot across the street from the US Embassy;
Parking in the Isrotel which is Central Park.

All of these lots are 25 shekels on Shabbat.

Hello fellow Hashers!

Well, words can not describe the debacle that was to be the Redemption Hash for Goldmember.
After not setting a Hash 3 weeks ago, this was her chance, and she came through in true Goldmember fashion.
The excuses started the second the Hashers arrived; there was rain and the trail was washed away, jachnun was eaten for lunch, etc.
We set off on an ill marked course running through the all of Kfar Saba.Perhaps there were markings, we are not sure. We located a tree maze and had a little fun running through it. At the 1/2 point, where there was no circle, we sang "Joe The Button" and we were off again on an unmarked trail. Needless to say, there were a few disappointed Hashers and some anger (mis)management issues.

We circled up at the Jerusalem Theatre. There were many new faces and some of the usual ugly ones. Some were late and at 4:15, we headed out. Many were lost and some just confused. We sang "More Beer" at the circle (without Caveman who was hunting for lost Hashers) and continued the party at Gonadfather and Boston Creamed's house where we were served an Italian feast. Magnifico!

Hello fellow Hashers!

We gathered together at the Nahal Alexander. The baby made her Hashing debut and decided that she did not like the Hash and forced Betty Cocker back into the chariot for a ride home. There were many complaints about the lack of directions provided by the Hares. Around 4:15 we set off on a sandy trail that did have a couple of great views and many hills. We circled up at the midway point and sang one of the Hash's most difficult songs, "More Beer" then continued back to the parking lot. The walkers managed to keep up with the runners on the second half. Shameful....

- This year, Yaron Rochin from Beit HaHayal and the Ministry of Tourism, are organizing a bus to take the Israelis into Bethlehem.
- For security clearance reasons, they need people's details ASAP. This will ensure entry to Bethlehem.
- I asked about safety and was told that if there are any concerns, obviously the Israelis would not be let in to Bethlehem but would join at the checkpoint and run/walk/lope 8K, as in previous years.

Location: We will begin our Hashing adventure on 29 Ben Yehuda in downtown Tel Aviv (near the Isrotel).

Directions:

From the US Embassy take Shalom Aleichem to a left on Ben Yehuda. The start will be next to the Subway on Ben Yehuda.

Hashers will likely have to pay for parking, and Just Lynne recommends three lots, all with access on Hayarkon:

63 Hayarkon is south of the US Embassy;
A lot across the street from the US Embassy;
Parking in the Isrotel which is Central Park.

All of these lots are 25 shekels on Shabbat. The beermeister should park in the Isrotel, as the second deck of the parking garage is where we will hold the down downs and the Hashers can meet the Wieners!!

By freak coincidence the Hash Run 911 was on the day before the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The Hashers in a rare moment respect took off their hats in Rememberance of the victims of 9/11. We circled up outside of Caveman's home and we had some visiting hashers show up. We were off on the trail that had both shady and sunny stops. As the temperature continued to soar, the hashers started betting on whether the next hold would be a shady or a sunny hold. We gathered in a park for a rendition of Joe the Button and continued back to Caveman's parking area when we were met by New Dad Spit or Swallow who joined us for a drink-and-dash.

Hash Trash Run 910, Directions to Run 911

Hello fellow Hashers!

The long-awaited surprise-celebration of Captain Caveman's 500th Run (which was up to ~520 runs by now) had finally arrived. The pack gathered at Deliverance's chateaux for a cunning costume-change, involving sending Caveman on an ice-shleppin' decoy, while Hashers donned crispy white T's with Caveman's remarkably realistic portrait. The birthday boy was surprised at the door - let's do a reenactment:

...and off we went.

Deliverance decided to celebrate Caveman's senility... uh, meant seniority, by helping him with what she feels must be poor vision by now, and laid T's that can be spotted from outer space. The only thing that managed to draw (female) Hashers' attention from the marks was the buff, glistening piece of meat running along the road beside us. Some neighbourly love was poured on us while running through the streets of Herzlia, when we were suddenly greeted with a hose (and no, that's not a phallic metaphor, literally a hose spaying us with water).

Deliverance laid a sneaky on-in, fooling half the pack. Only a few happy Hashers didn't fall for it and charged towards the circle. There, Caveman's entire family awaited with pride to celebrate his revered accomplishment. The one thing the circle did actually lack was Beer - too many Hashers were either too young to drink (lame excuse) or too beer-phobic (even lamer). Not to fret, plenty of Beer was soon to be wasted, when Just Caitlin knelt in front of Deliverance and her apron, got showered with flour and was reborn as Sanitize For Your Protection.

Caveman's celebration then moved on to Deliverance's pool-side, where even the most conservative Mexican would compliment the dishes served. Even Margaritas were there - more than 10 liters of it, actually. In the effort to perfect the recipe, Just Jim was getting everybody drunk on Tequila and lime - an no one seemed to really care that he is. Olé!

We circled atop a high hill near Tel Aviv University. The hares were sick and put under Hash Quaranteen (no beer from our cups). Just Lynn and Deliverance managed to drive right past the start and didn't notice the Hashers. Eventually they found the start and we were off.

I don't know about the run because I walked, but at the mid point all the runners looked angry and thirsty, signs that it was a normal hash.

We sang The Addams Family and continued back to the beer.

Hello fellow Hashers!

The pack gathered in the holy city, right next to the Scouts home, where young minds were undoubtedly doing very unholy things. Some of us got there without a problem, some even walked to the circle, and others were soooo Late Cumming that search-parties were considered.

We started running, immediately uphill to get us going, all the while the Hare's dreadful word echoing in our minds: "some parts are not well-marked..." Boston didn't fail us, and led the baffled group into J-town's bird sanctuary (not the kind of birds Caveman would like to meet, but still). On through Sacher Garden to a "More Beer" rendition in a frightfully beer-less circle. Even the guys coming to play Cricket thought it was strange.

It was only downhill from there - oh wait, no it wasn't. We had to scratch our way back through hills and tunnels, in front of cars and pedestrians. Finally at the circle, the holy ale was poured and some even had the pleasure of having cold down-downs, once the warm ones were finished. Hungry Hashers were then greeted into Boston Creamed and The Gonadfather's household, where yummy gnocchi was served and spaghetti was flowing like water. None was left, we made sure of that. The well-fed pack tumbled into their chariots and went home.
